The Program for Excellence "Al Bashair" in East Jerusalem
We started to move our first events to the online sphere. In this framework we conducted with our partner, מכון ירושלים למחקרי מדיניות - Jerusalem Institute for Policy Research, a fascinating live online discussion in the frame of their East Jerusalem Think Tank Forum, focusing on the Program for Excellence Al Bashair in East Jerusalem. The program which has started year and a half ago, trains excellent young high schools students for academic studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The program has three main goals:
1. Developing self and leadership empowerment - building young leadership in East Jerusalem to push their community forward.
2. Employment development - CV writing, interviews skills etc.
3. Social development - social involvement, community building, how to build projects that answer community's needs.
The 2 years program is very intensive, includes a weekly session + a weekly two hours of social volunteering. Though it's intensity, the students are very committed and their number has been increasing, which implies on their strong need for assistance and success.
In the current hard times, program's students are involved in measures containing the corona virus in East Jerusalem. They help East Jerusalemites with unemployment bureaucracy, employment services, and spreading in the community the latest official health instructions.
