The German Group of the Liberal International (DGLI) in Israel and Palestine
FNF-Jerusalem hosted from 20. - 28. October a delegation from Germany comprised of members of the ‘German Group of the Liberal International’ (DGLI), among them two Members of the German Parliament (Bundestag). We had the pleasure to bring them together with outstanding and impressive local Israeli and Palestinian leaders, among them Members of Knesset and the Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister to get their insights about political and socio-economic developments and pressing challenges in the region. The guests from Germany enjoyed the direct exchange of thoughts and ideas with their local counterparts and proved to be open, sympathetic and patient listeners and at the same time passionate discussants.
Among the many highlights for the German guests was an extensive briefing by the new German Ambassador to Israel, Dr. Susanne Wasum-Rainer and a reception in the guests’ honor conducted by the Israeli Liberal Group and hosted by former MK Naomi Blumenthal and former minister and Vice Prime Minister, Moshe Nissim.
The visitors’ program included field trips to the Northern Border of Israel and the Golan Heights to get a better understanding of the current security situation on spot, as well as to the Sea of Galilee, to the Shuafat Refugee Camp, the Old City of Jerusalem, to Ramallah and Bethlehem, the German Excellence School of Talitha Kumi and the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, Yad Vashem.
